Erdogan added in a statement to reporters after Friday prayers in Istanbul: "We can never have an intention or goal such as interfering in Syria's internal affairs," noting that the Turkish and Syrian peoples "are brothers and live side by side."
The Turkish President continued by saying: "We wanted and still want to develop our relations with Syria, and we know the Syrian people well and our relations in the past were good," stressing Ankara's readiness to work together to develop relations with Syria just as it did in the past."
Erdogan said: "We have kept our relations with Syria very alive in the past, and as you know, we have had meetings in the past with Mr. Bashar al-Assad, even family meetings, and it is impossible to say that this will not happen in the future, but it could happen again."/End
