During the contract signing ceremony, Al-Ghariri stressed that “the Ministry, within the ministerial program, was keen to contract with solid and experienced companies to complete infrastructure projects.
The Minister pointed out that this step comes to ensure the provision of sufficient storage capacities to accommodate self-sufficient and strategic quantities of wheat, an achievement that has been achieved over the past two years.
Al-Ghariri added that “the Ministry worked in parallel to prepare bunkers with a capacity of one million tons in preparation for the next season, in addition to signing this contract as part of the first package, with a future plan to establish 20 additional silos.
He continued: "Today, we are fulfilling the promise we made with a performance that is different from previous years, and we are working to develop production, storage, and equipment mechanisms."
For his part, the Director General of the General Company for Grain Trade, Haider Al-Karaawi, confirmed that "his company has worked meticulously during the past period to complete this contract with solid companies to ensure the achievement of this accomplishment."
Representatives of the two companies, Bahler of Switzerland and Samco of Egypt, praised the role of the Ministry in achieving self-sufficiency, and stressed their commitment to maintaining quality and specifications in implementing the construction of silos.
The Ministry's reports indicate that the 2024 wheat marketing season was the largest in the history of Iraq, as 6.302 million tons were marketed with transparent and simple procedures to support farmers."
The reports also indicated that "no silo has been established since 1980 with this capacity, with the exception of the Shatra Silo and the Karbala Mineral Silo with a capacity of 30,000 tons." / End
