In a statement, the Ministry of Health said the meeting discussed the current state of Iraq’s health sector, ways to improve medical services, and means of strengthening cooperation with the organization.
Al-Hassnawi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the national health system despite challenges, praising WHO’s initiatives in combating drug abuse, providing training, and offering technical consultations. As Chair of the Council of Arab Health Ministers, he also stressed the importance of providing necessary support to the health sector in Gaza through the organization’s regional office, commending its humanitarian response to the destruction of health facilities caused by the ongoing aggression.
For her part, Dr. Balkhy reiterated the WHO’s condemnation of the assaults on Gaza, confirming that supporting its health sector remains a priority. She highlighted the organization’s continued assistance and underlined its priorities of expanding equitable access to life-saving medicines and vaccines, building a more resilient health workforce, and reducing diseases, deaths, and the social costs linked to substance abuse. /End
