Al-Maliki said in a tweet on the "X" platform that "the reason for the significant increase in the number of those excluded, some of whom were MPs or previously held certain positions, is due to the application of the provisions of Elections Law No. 12 of 2018, as amended, to the parliamentary elections for the first time. Article (7/3) includes the exclusion of a large group of perpetrators of crimes against honor, financial and administrative corruption, and those damaging to reputation." He pointed out that "this exclusion is a legal ruling, even if they are included in the amnesty law."
He added, "The other reason is due to the implementation of accountability and justice provisions, which had been tolerated and overlooked in previous years."
The Electoral Commission had previously announced the disqualification of a number of candidates for the 2025 House of Representatives elections, after verifying the existence of criminal records against them related to murder, bribery, forgery, fraud, as well as financial and administrative corruption cases./End
