In an interview with Fox News, he said that the US administration must "remember who it is dealing with in Syria and must ensure the protection of these historical communities there."
He continued: "What happened to minorities in Syria recently seems very bad, and we are trying to determine how bad it is. We are trying to determine whether what minorities were subjected to in Syria was a limited incident or genocide."
He added: "We are talking with our allies and doing unannounced things to protect minorities in Syria, such as Christians and Druze."
Vance noted that Washington will not send troops to Syria, but there is much that can be done diplomatically and economically to protect minorities.
"Our invasion of Iraq led to the destruction of one of the greatest historic Christian communities in the world, and we do not want to allow a Christian group to be destroyed again," he said./ End
