Interior Ministry: A Criminal gang involved in murder, kidnapping, and extortion against citizens in Basra Governorate dismantled
In a statement, the Agency reported that, under the direct supervision of the Deputy Minister for Intelligence and Federal Investigations, intelligence units in Basra—working alongside a specialized task force—successfully located the suspects, who had been on the run.
The force apprehended several members of the gang, which had committed acts of murder, kidnapping, and extortion against citizens in Basra. These crimes include the killing of Major Hussein Asaad, the director of the local Anti-Crime Division, and the murder of a citizen named Safaa Al-Shawi.
The Agency added that, upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to these inhumane acts against innocent citizens. A crime scene reconstruction—conducted under the supervision of the Basra Investigative Court—confirmed the details of the crimes they had committed against defenseless citizens.
The Intelligence Agency affirmed that this operation serves as evidence of the vigilance of security and intelligence services, and the competence of their personnel in pursuing perpetrators of crimes and dismantling criminal networks. It further reflects the determination of security forces to uphold the rule of law, pursue those who operate outside of it, and ensure that criminals do not evade justice—continuing until all those involved are apprehended and brought before a fair judiciary. / End
