Erdogan: Gaza agreement stalled, international commitments unfulfilled, and settler terrorism in the West Bank on the rise
In a speech delivered this Friday at the opening of the 10th edition of the TRT World Forum in Istanbul, Erdogan leveled sharp criticism at the international order. He asserted that the rules-based international system is on the verge of collapse and called upon international institutions to fulfill their responsibilities regarding ongoing crises and wars—foremost among them the situation in Gaza.
He added: "The world is currently going through a difficult phase, marked by intensifying competition among major powers and the dangerous erosion of the rules-based international order. Looking at current events across the globe—most notably in our own region—it appears that the international order has effectively declared bankruptcy."
He pointed out that the current international system has collapsed due to the use of excessive force, and that the world has reached a point where injustice has become normalized, while those who advocate for peace have been reduced to a minority.
Erdogan warned against the escalating terrorism by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, stating that it aims to forcibly displace Palestinians from the land they have inhabited for centuries—a process that is becoming increasingly brazen by the day, right before the eyes of the world. He noted that more than 3,000 attacks and violations against Palestinians in the West Bank were recorded in the month of October alone.
Describing Gaza as the greatest humanitarian crisis currently unfolding in the world, he noted that the total destruction inflicted upon the territory has taken place in full view of the global community, yet no sufficient action has been taken to halt it.
Erdogan criticized the international institutions tasked with maintaining peace, security, and stability, stating that they "stand by and watch what is happening in Gaza, just as they did previously in Rwanda and Srebrenica."
He emphasized that the peace plan for Gaza—which Turkey helped develop and endorsed—is not being implemented, and stressed that international institutions must fulfill their responsibilities.
He further stated that more than 200 journalists have been deliberately killed by Israel in Gaza, reaffirming Turkey’s clear stance regarding what he described as a "network of massacres."
The Turkish president affirmed that his country is doing everything... ...within its capacity, and is sincerely dedicating its efforts toward building a more just and free world. He noted that Turkey will continue working to find peaceful solutions to ongoing wars and crises.
He stated that Turkey is being openly targeted because of its principled and just stance, affirming that his country will neither accept such attempts nor yield to them.
He added, "We will raise our voices with full courage, and we will always stand on the side of justice and truth with determination and steadfastness." He emphasized that his country desires global peace and advocates for the strong to stand on the side of what is right—a feat, he noted, that only the courageous can accomplish. / End
