Head of the Relations and Media Department at the Ministry of Interior, Miqdad Miri, stated that "during the month of October, organized crime units succeeded in arresting 37 suspects involved in antiquities trafficking. They also seized 222 artifacts and 23 ancient coins, in addition to 5 devices used for detecting antiquities, and documented two instances of encroachment upon an archaeological mound."
Miri emphasized that "these results are part of the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Interior to combat the illicit trafficking of antiquities and to protect Iraq’s cultural and historical heritage."
He stressed that "Iraqi antiquities represent a national identity and a human heritage that cannot be compromised," adding that "the Ministry remains committed to pursuing those who traffic in these items or encroach upon archaeological sites, and will take legal action against them." /End
