Baghdad /NINA/- The First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed received today, Thursday, at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the Australian Ambassador to Iraq, Glenn Miles, and his accompanying delegation.

A presidential statement stated that during the meeting, efforts made to confront the challenges facing the country in the areas of consolidating human rights, fairness to women and enabling them to perform their role in society were discussed, in addition to the problems of climate change and its effects on the social structure.

The First Lady also talked about the problem of the spread of the drug phenomenon, and the necessity of uniting efforts to reduce this dangerous scourge that threatens the entity of the family and society.

Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed referred to the history of Iraq and its ancient civilization, stressing that Iraq is the first country in the region to grant women their rights in government positions.

In turn, the Australian ambassador praised the tangible positive development in Iraq, wishing for further progress. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the First Lady for her keenness to strengthen relations with Australia in the humanitarian and social aspects./End
