Ministry of Electricity Clarifies Scope and Extent of Cooperation Principles with Germany’s Siemens
In a statement, the Ministry noted that the cooperation principles encompass new projects in the generation sector—including combined-cycle and thermal power plants—utilizing high-efficiency technologies and leveraging fuel sources available in Iraq. Project sites will be selected to maximize the use of existing infrastructure, transmission networks, and fuel pipelines.
Regarding the transmission sector, the statement explained that the principles include supplying and installing new transmission stations across various regions of Iraq, based on submitted studies and the Ministry’s requirements. Plans also involve enhancing the efficiency of existing transmission stations, resolving grid bottlenecks, and improving response times to emergency faults.
Furthermore, the principles cover the continuation of maintenance contracts for operational generation plants—thereby supporting the grid, boosting efficiency, and increasing available generation capacity—as well as exploring project financing mechanisms and implementing training and development programs to enhance the capabilities of the Ministry’s personnel across various specializations.
Under the patronage of Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, Minister of Electricity Ali Saadi Waheeb signed a cooperation agreement today, Tuesday, in Berlin with Siemens Energy AG. This agreement falls within the framework of the "Iraq Energy Program – Phase IV" and aims to continue collaboration on developing the electricity sector and advancing generation and transmission projects./ End
