Baghdad/NINA/ – Iraq and Turkey have finalized the draft of the general agreement regarding the implementation of infrastructure projects and the development of the transport sector.

This agreement stems from the framework memorandum of understanding signed by Transport Minister Wahab Al-Hasani with the Turkish side late last July. This step paves the way for securing government approvals, official signing, and transitioning to the contractual implementation phase.

In a statement, the Ministry of Transport announced that the draft was finalized following four days of intensive negotiations in Baghdad—which continued late into the night—involving representatives from the ministries of Transport, Oil, Finance, and Foreign Affairs, the Central Bank of Iraq, the State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO), and Iraqi technical bodies, alongside representatives from the Turkish ministries of Transport, Infrastructure, Energy, and Foreign Affairs, as well as Ziraat Bank.

The statement noted that the discussions focused on finalizing legal, technical, and financial aspects and defining implementation mechanisms to ensure clarity regarding mutual rights and obligations, as well as the requirements of the targeted projects.

Following the completion of the draft's provisions, the two sides agreed to submit it to the relevant high-level government authorities in both countries to obtain final approvals and complete formal procedures in preparation for the official signing, according to the statement. /End
