Director of Basra Oil Company to NINA: These are our projects and we plan to increase production and exports
Bassim Abdul Karim Al-Shamkhani, the company’s Director General, told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that “production in cooperation with operating companies, according to OPEC data and Ministry of Oil statistics, amounts to around 3 million barrels per day, in addition to output from the Maysan, Dhi Qar, and Middle Oil fields, which supply both domestic consumption and exports.”
He noted that “current exports do not exceed 3.25 million barrels per day, while domestic consumption ranges between 600,000 and 750,000 barrels daily.” He added that the company is implementing a clear export plan and is currently working on the third offshore pipeline, with a capacity exceeding 2 million barrels per day, which will raise total export capacity to around 3.5 million barrels. “We could reach over 5 million barrels within the next two years,” he said.
Al-Shamkhani further revealed that discussions are underway for the construction of a fourth and fifth pipeline to reinforce or replace aging infrastructure, thereby enhancing Basra’s overall export capacity. He also pointed out a plan to increase production, particularly in licensing round fields and southern oilfields.
“The Ministry of Oil has developed a comprehensive plan to attract reputable international companies, including ExxonMobil, under the framework of licensing round contracts and conditions,” he concluded./ End
