Mahmoud Othman: The problems between Baghdad and Erbil have become more complex... and there are no solutions in sight
Othman said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): "Direct talks between Baghdad and Erbil have been stalled for some time, with the ongoing crisis over salaries for Kurdistan Region employees and the failure to find a solution to the problem of oil exports and revenues. A new problem has also emerged after the region recently concluded two oil and gas production contracts with American companies, which the federal government objected to." He explained that "all of these matters have made the problems more complex than before."
He explained: "The problems are not limited to Baghdad and the region alone. There are also internal problems among the parties in the Kurdistan Region over the formation of the government, despite the regional elections being held several months ago." He pointed out that the main dispute among the Kurdish parties relates to government positions within the next regional government.
Othman emphasized: "There is no third party to resolve the problems between Baghdad and Erbil, and among the Kurdish parties, given that the Middle East is on the brink of a powerful hurricane if negotiations between the United States and Iran, the two actors in Iraq and the region, fail to succeed. Therefore, Iraq and its problems are considered secondary to both of them," he said. /End
