A statement of Halbousi’s office said “he received on Monday Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg to discuss strengthening relations between the two countries in all fields. Welcoming the Norwegian Prime Minister to visit Baghdad after the victory against the terrorist Daesh, he appreciated Norway's contribution with the international coalition to support Iraq during its war against terrorism which targeted the whole world.
The speaker said that Iraq looks forward to a long-term future partnership with Norway, and this requires strengthening relations between the two countries and the opening of an embassy to Norway in the country, as well as the activation of Iraqi-Norwegian friendship committees.
Al-Halbousi called for joint cooperation between the two countries in all fields, including investment and benefiting from the expertise of Norwegian companies in the construction and reconstruction, and contribute to the efforts to return the displaced, and achieve stability, and continued cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
The meeting also discussed developments in the security situation in the region and their impact on the country, pointing out that Iraq is not in isolation from its surroundings and does not want to be a battleground as much as a meeting point between the parties, stressing that the stability of Iraq is an important factor for the stability of the region.
For her part, Norwegian Prime Minister expressed her country's desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Iraq, stressing her country's commitment to partnership and support the Iraqi government in efforts to combat terrorism, reconstruction and stability./ End
