Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf said in a statement today that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a memorandum of understanding with the General Secretariat of the Arab League, including the exemption of Iraq from 75% of its debts within the support funds provided to Arab countries, and scheduling the remaining, and paying for his contributions to the budget of the General Secretariat of the Arab League.
He added, the issue of forgiving Iraq from 75% of these debts as one of the items of the agenda of the Arab summit in Tunisia voted by Arab leaders, and as a result of the diplomatic movement carried out by the Ministry, and the Iraqi delegate in the Arab League.
He added that this memorandum was one of the themes of the talks held by Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim in his meeting with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in Baghdad, which resulted in expediting its signature and taking it into force.
He said that the memorandum of understanding was signed by the Iraqi Ambassador in Cairo, its representative to the Arab League, Ahmed Nayef Rashid Al-Dulaimi, and Ambassador Abdullah Sorour Al-Jarman, head of the administrative and financial affairs sector in the General Secretariat of the Arab League./ End
