According to "AFP" Zarif met with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Laudrian and Finance Minister Brunner-le-Mer before the meeting at the headquarters of the city of Biarritz with Macron, and German diplomats and British attended part of the meeting.
The French presidency announced that the talks between Zarif and French officials were "positive" and "will continue."
At the end of the meetings, Zarif left Biarritz by plane.
"Everything was done in a few hours, and since it became possible, we informed the European countries and the Americans," French presidency said.
The presidency said that Macron told US President Donald Trump personally, stressing that Zarif's arrival was "in agreement" with the United States.
Asked about Zarif's arrival in Biarritz, Trump replied: "No comment."
"I met Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Biarritz after detailed discussions," Zarif wrote on Twitter. He published two photos of the meeting. "
"The road is difficult, but it is worth trying," he said.
In July, the Iranians stopped abiding by some of the commitments included in the Vienna agreement on their nuclear dossier, in response to the US withdrawal in May 2018 from the deal and renewed sanctions against Iran.
Macron is seeking to persuade Washington to ease sanctions on Iranian oil in return for Iran to abide by its commitments under the agreement, and to start negotiations on its missile program./ End
